opening blog message

Hi everyone,

This is the first blog posted on our new blog facility.  I hope this blog is used to share people’s thoughts on photography and whatever other topics are deemed relevant.

If you would like to suggest a new blog topic, please send an email to admin@weeklyphotocomp.com and we will consider the topic for posting.  if you would like to comment on an existing topic, please do so but note that all comments will be screened by us before being posted.  No derogatory or slanderous comments will be posted, try to keep it positive and constructive.

We are now into our 10th week of competition.  So far we have been blown away by how international the entries have been.  It seems that photography is one of those things in life which crosses all borders, nationalities, beliefs, socio-economic differences, ages etc.  Our winners have been from various countries so far - Australia, United States, Sweden, Germany, Lithuania, Russia.  Congratulations to all of the winners so far.  Thankyou to all of our entrants so far, keep them coming and keep telling your friends and family all around the world, word of mouth is by far the best way this competition will increase and become huge.  How exciting it will be for everyone when the prize money gets into the tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands and who knows what the limit will be, all for a single photograph.  Not bad for a single push of the button (and a bit of skill or luck).

Thanks, Joe - Weekly Photo Comp

Hi Joe, I share your sentiments about photography being a creative outlet embraced by a multiplicity of cultures and while I don’t always agree with your winner selections, none of mine have won yet, I can’t help but admire the quality and the variety, it’s great to see so many different shots from around the globe. I’ll keep trying.

Photography on the web is the way to see and know the world throught the eyes of many people. “Weeklyphotocomp” gives a chance to win a prize for the best “peep” through the viewfinder.
I like the simplicity of the idea: more photos, bigger prize, greater interest.
I wish many quality images and a good (and fast) work to the staff.

Cool, but i have one issue, its nice to talk about big numbers and obviously everyone would be even more thrilled to have a shot at hundreds of thousands but that means there would be also hundreds of thousands photos to judge in a short period of time. To be blunt thats simply unreal i think that even up to a thousand photos per week is a difficult task to judge for it to be up to some professional level.

Thanks WeeklyPhotoComp for introducing me to a new forum and outlet for sharing & viewing photography. This just happens to combine two of my favorite things; photography & a chance to win money !!! I look forward to seeing the site grow & maybe someday a page that shows us ALL of the weeks entries, not just the top 50. Cheers to the staff and here’s to watching the site get HUGE !!

  5. nice photos. I will try.
    Muchas gracias.

  6. Hi Joe and the photography world

Just like to say I love the simplecity of the site and the chance to win a prize. I like the fact that I am up against some really good photography and if I win I’ll know that my work must be good to have got past the rest.
    Thanks once again

    Troy.

    Hi Joe,

I wanted to just tell you that I love this concept. I have participated in weeks 9 and 10 after finding the site online and both of my submitted images were selected in the top 50.

I think it is wonderful that you have a posted criteria for judging and that you don’t allow for comments that override the site and idea. I also think it is nice to see how much prize money was won for past winners because if you make it in the top 50 you can easily see where you work lies among those who were also selected and in my opinion, being in the top 10 percent internationally is a nice kudo for submitted work.

I say keep up the great work you have created here, keep pushing the photographers to want to be recognized in the top 50, keep the price low and let us all enjoy the ride along with weeklyphotocomp.com!

Great idea. It would be nice if there was just a bit more about the judges, where they are from, their qualifications and how many there are. Otherwise looks a great fun idea and nice idea to submit to charity as well.

I would like to see some of the photos and comments from the judges just to see where and how they come up with the winner. I’m not interested in the winning money but would so love to win, but would like to know what the judges are looking for

    Love the site

    Michelle

I too like the ideas on this web site. I just joined and am eager to put my photos up for the competition. It may get me a new lense !

  13. Hi all

Great competition concept - simple and easy. I agree with Peter who questioned the benefits if the comp gets way too big (nice to win big money, but surely hard to judge).

Also - like Karl, my winning entry will buy me a 2.8L lens!

Please keep the entry fee low at $2 - this keeps me entering every week.

    Hi Pete (and Peter).

As the competition grows beyond the point where the current judges can handle the workload, we will employ more judges to spread the load in determining the top 50 and will also nominate central judges to oversee the consistency of judging to try and make sure no potential winners are missed out. The judges determine the top 50 on the merits of each individual photograph.

Thanks, Joe - Weekly Photo Comp

  15. Hi,
I just had gone through your website yeaterday and this is really amazing.
A great innovative idea, entry fee is logically correct, selling photographs through this site is a very good idea.
If you can carry on this honestly and sincerely it must uplift the photography skill a lot.
    Hope you suceed in it.
    Regards.

this is a question. If you make it to the top 50, do you get a refund of your $2.00. I’m reading the faq page and to me, it’s saying that if your image is displayed after the top 50 are chosen, then you get a refund. Is this correct ???

  17. Admin said

    Hi Kristin,

The top 50 do not get a refund on their entry fee. All entrants whether they make the top 50 or not contribute to the prize pool.

    Thanks, Joe

I paid for an entry and before I could submit it, my internet dropped out. Once I returned to the site I had to start again and pay again for the same entry again. There was no other way to submit my entry. I know it’s only $2 but that’s not the point. I contacted weeklyphotocomp.com but they haven’t bothered with a response. I think that when tou pay for an entry, you should receive some sort of code to enter to avoid having to pay multiple times for a single entry.
