Does the composition draw the viewers eye into the photograph if intended? Does the photo contain foreground, middle ground & background, particularly if it is a photo of landscape, depending on artistic intent?
Lighting
Is the lighting used to good effect, if intended? Is the photo washed out due to too much light or too many light sources? Are some areas too dull or dark due to lack of lighting? Depends on artistic intent.
Correct exposure (may vary according to artistic intent)
Is the photograph overexposed or underexposed & is there a good balance between the different areas of the photograph?
Focus / depth of field
Is the subject in focus? Is the depth of field appropriate for the subject, e.g. shallow DOF for portraits & macro, deep DOF for landscapes etc. may vary according to artistic intent.

Are vibrant colours captured or is the photo dull, may vary according to intent and context. Are the colours too vivid or not vivid enough? If B&W, is there enough contrast / tonal range or is the photo all middle greys and washed out? Are the colours true to the subject and intent of the photo? May vary according to interpretation of artistic intent.
Originality
Is the subject and the way it is captured original or is it a typical theme or scene?
Vibe
How does the photograph make the viewer / judges feel? Is the viewer / judge instinctively moved by the photograph, does it stir some emotions?
Artistic Merit / interesting
Is the photograph interesting? Does it capture the intended theme, emotion, mood, character, style etc? Would the viewer / judge display it proudly in their own gallery or home as fine art?
